John Steinbeck, an American writer, was born in California, in 1902. He was studying in Stanford University, but did not graduate from it. Instead, he was doing manual labor and was writing.

Steinbeck’s first novel is Cub of Gold. It was published in 1929. The second one is The Pastures of Heaven and the third is To a God Unknown, published in 1933. These novels was not successful. Tortilla Flat, published in 1935, was the first work
... more, which gained attention. Then followed some novels about laborers, but The Grapes of Wrath finally was honored by Pulitzer Prize and won a National Book Award. This novel was screen by John Ford.

During World War II John was writing about the Nazis and the government. The theme of Great Depression was the part of his novels too.

John Steinbeck succeeded in writing screens for several films. For example, Lifeboat, A Medal for Benny, Viva Zapata, etc.

John was married Carol Henning, then Gwyndolyn Conger, and had two children. In 1950 he was married his third wife Elaine Scott.

In 1962 John Steinbeck received the Nobel Prize for literature. He died in New York City in 1968. less
