head against his chest. Petting her hair, he surrounded her with his security, hoping she derived comfort from his embrace. Finally, he found the words to convey the depth of his affection for her.
“We’ve only known each other for a few days, Melissa. I realize that, but I have never felt such a profound connection with another person before.”
“But that’s ridiculous. You were married once.” Her tone wasn’t malicious or argumentative, but spoken softly and to the point.
“I know, and that’s why I’m absolutely astounded by what I feel for you. That’s why I made you promise not to leave.”
She glanced up at him. “This is crazy.” She fiddled with the buttons on his shirt. “I feel like I knew you in another life, or that perhaps all my life was leading up to the moment I met you, and now that I’m here with you, everything makes sense. Except it doesn’t make sense. None of this is logical. I mean, I let you stick a speculum into my pussy and take my temperature the old-fashioned way for goodness’ sake.”
“I know you’re a spoiled little rich girl who’s used to the finer things in life,” he said in a teasing tone, “but I think perhaps you might like it here. Permanently. Think about it, Melissa. Think about what it might be like to stay here with me. I’d build you the grandest art studio you’ve ever seen. There are empty buildings on Main Street too, just waiting for some tender loving care. You could open up a studio and breathe life into this tired old town.”
“I can’t make any promises, but I will promise not to take off without telling you first. I wish I could promise more, but I-I’m scared, John. The last man I opened my heart up to stomped all over it. But I do like you. A lot.” She ran a hand through his hair and brought her lips to his, and he cupped her face and took command of the kiss, never wishing to release her.
She tasted like the peppermint iced tea they’d had during their picnic lunch, and he pressed his tongue into her mouth, gliding it against hers as his need for her mounted higher and higher. She moaned and he almost forgot about her punishment. Almost.
John reluctantly withdrew from her lips and held her out by her shoulders, giving her a solemn look. “I care about you a lot, Melissa, and that’s why I’m still going to punish you. I won’t tolerate bad behavior, and I don’t think you’d respect me very much if I did.”
“Will it always be like this when we’re together? I mean, you’ll spank me if…” Her words trailed off and she bit her lip.
“I have always been the dominant partner in all my relationships, Melissa. Yes, I believe in spanking naughty female bottoms. But I’ll never spank you in anger. You have nothing to be afraid of. Any discipline you receive at my hand will be administered with love, little girl, you have my promise on that.”
“But it’s going to hurt. Like for real?” She resumed fidgeting with her hands, and he decided now was as good a time as any to lift her out of the truck. He placed her on her feet and shut the door before guiding her into the house.
“Yes, Melissa, it is going to hurt. But from that discomfort and embarrassment, you will learn a valuable lesson.” He patted her bottom. “Go straight to the corner. Don’t keep me waiting.”

Chapter Seven

This was crazy. How could she just stand here in the corner, waiting for a punishment like a naughty little girl? She was a grown woman. Chancing a glimpse over her shoulder, she found the room empty. Where had he gone? She considered tromping out of the bedroom and informing John that under no circumstances would she submit to his discipline, but somehow she wasn’t able to force her legs to budge.
Despite all her misgivings, deep down she wanted to experience a real spanking, a real punishment that brought her to tears and made her very repentant over her actions. Though she’d trembled and blushed with shame, she’d
